Veggie gardens are waking up in Vancouver. In my front yard, these things have sprung up or survived: shallots (the small green spikes), garlic (the larger allium on the right), varieties of greens, and mâche (the lettuce-like plants with the solid leaves). The greens and mâche have sprung up from seed.
I have more mâche plants that have sprung up along the rocks lining a path.
And how many are growing around this over-wintering kale?
And to think I left only one mâche plant go to seed in this plot...
Not to worry, this particular green is valued in Parisian markets because it is one of the earliest local ones!
